One Mitzvah at a Time
God created us in order to partner with Him in bringing Godliness to our physical world, in which He has concealed Himself. Our primary purpose in life is to prepare a dwelling place for Him in this world. The main way we can bring Godliness into our world is by observing His commandments, His mitzvot. Once a person has "taken on the yoke of heaven," by coming into relationship with God, we are then expected to "take on the yoke of Torah." Remember that we observe God's Torah because we are already a part of His people, not in order to try to become a part of the people of God. Since God is totally Other, and beyond, beyond our finite comprehension, He has given us His commandments as a way of expressing to us how we can give Him pleasure. Through the fulfillment of His commands, we have the opportunity to give God tremendous pleasure!
