Many people are interested in knowing more about Jesus in His historical setting; however, may not be too interested in "religion". There are many who are either not very satisfied with the church they are presently attending; used to go to church, but for one of many reasons stopped going; or who have never really been to church or are not interested in 'religion'.
To these people we have a new option. Over the past number of years, the interest in studying 'The Historical Jesus' has accelerated, with many popular books constantly been written, and some even becoming best sellers. The only problem with many involved in this movement is that they are rather quick to throw out the majority of information we have about the historical Jesus, and many take Him out of His original 1st century Palestinian Jewish context.
We are excited to announce our study of the life of Jesus, emphasizing the historical context of 1st century Palestine and also the mindset of 1st century Judaism, of which Jesus was a part. We are committed to using all available resources in order to better understand the historical life of Jesus, including the New Testament as well as Jewish and Roman literature written during Jesus' time.
We believe that having a good grasp of the political, religious, social, and economic conditions of 1st century Palestine and the Roman Empire assist us in better understanding what Jesus did and said during His life. It also allows us to better understand the conflicts He was involved in, which ultimately led to His crucifixion.
So if you are interested in knowing more about the Historical Jesus, but may not want to deal with a lot of the "religious stuff" involved with going to so many churches today, come and visit us! Our Sunday evening gatherings last about an hour and a half, and are set up as a time to study the historical life of Jesus, in a "down-to-earth" environment.
Yes, we are Christians, and believe that the Bible is historically accurate. However, we believe that the only way people will get the opportunity to really get to know Jesus is by understanding Jesus in His Jewish 1st century context. And our aim is to help people begin their journey of understanding the real Jesus of history.
